Dandong, nestled in the southeast of LiaoningProvince, is a city where river, coast, and border converge, with its industries encompassing commerce, port, logistics, and tourism. It stands as the eastern gateway to the national strategic "Liaoning Coastal Economic Belt." With a coastline spanning 125 kilometers and a sea expanse covering 3,435.87 square kilometers, Dandong spans an administrative territory of 15,200 square kilometers.

  Functioning as a pivotal transportation hub, Dandong boasts a sophisticated network of sea, land, and air routes, forming a modern and comprehensive transportation infrastructure. It lies 220 kilometers from Pyongyang and 420 kilometers from Seoul by rail. By road, it is 222 kilometers from Shenyang and 252 kilometers from Dalian, accessible via four expressways (Shenyang-Dandong, Dandong-Dalian, Dandong-Haicheng, and Dandong-Tonghua) and two high-speed railways (Shenyang-Dandong Passenger Railway Line and Dandong-Dalian Express Railway), alongside the Northeast Eastern Railway. Dandong Port, serving as the northeastern region's most convenient maritime gateway, connects with over 100 ports in more than 90 countries globally, including the Oriental Pearl ferry route to Incheon, South Korea. Dandong boasts nine ports, comprising five national first-class water, land, and oil pipeline ports, as well as four former second-class ports. Dandong Airport operates seven domestic routes to Beijing, Shanghai, Shenzhen, Chengdu, Qingdao, Yantai, and Weihai.

Dandong's appeal resides in its stunning natural scenery, nestled among mountains, rivers, and seas, with a forest coverage of 66%. The city boasts 30 national and provincial scenic spots, nature reserves, and forest parks, earning acclaim as the warmest, most humid, and livable city in Northeast China.

  As an open and dynamic city positioned at the nexus of the Northeast Asia Economic Circle and the Bohai Sea Economic Circle, Dandong thrives on economic vitality. In 2020, it was designated among the pioneering cities for processing imported goods in the border trade market, expanding import sources to five Northeast Asian countries and establishing eight new border trade zones. Successful trial customs clearance for imported goods from South Korea marked a significant milestone. Currently, Dandong engages in economic and trade exchanges with over 100 countries.

  With a robust industrial foundation and abundant resources, Dandong's light industry continues to ascend in reputation, expanding in scale, and fortifying its brand presence. Key sectors include automobiles and parts, instrumentation, deep processing of agricultural and sideline products, protective textile products, deep processing of mineral resources, and Manchu medicine and health industries.
